Massive tax fraud in BYD imports - MP Mujibur Rahman -

SJB MP Mujibur Rahman says there is a tax discrepancy on BYD vehicles imported into Sri Lanka.

Addressing Parliament, he said there is serious suspicion that a racket has been carried out to exempt BYD vehicles from tax by charging lower taxes on the latest models imported into the country.

“A brand new BYD vehicle is coming into the country. The company that imports that vehicle, BYD, is importing a vehicle called ATTO 3. It is stated that the imported vehicle has 100 kilowatts. That brand new 100 kilowatt vehicle is taxed at 5.5 million. Next, a used BYD ATTO 3 vehicle. That used vehicle is taxed at 10 million.

But the problem with that is that the used vehicle is registered as 150 kilowatts. Then the brand new vehicle is registered as 100 kilowatts. When that brand new vehicle is taxed at 5.5 million, when that used vehicle is taxed at 10 million, there is a tax deficit of 4.5 million.

We do not know if the main company that imports those vehicles has any connection with the government. Just as that container went out, this one also went out with low taxes. “

When we went to the BYD website, it said BYD ATTO. 3 A vehicle is 150 kilowatts. There is no 100 kilowatt vehicle model. But when leaving the port, the newest vehicle is said to be 100 kilowatts, and 55 lakhs are paid in taxes. A refurbished vehicle is 150 kilowatts, and 10 lakhs are paid in taxes. So how can that happen? This can never happen.”
