Ex. Provincial Councilor K. Pushpakumar alias Iniya Bharathi's house underwent a special search

The house of former Provincial Councilor K. Pushpakumar alias Iniyabharathi, who is considered to be a close political ally of former Eastern Province Chief Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pillayan, who is currently being detained and questioned, was specially searched.

A house and office belonging to him in the Kalmunai area of Ampara were specially searched by a team of CID officers yesterday (26). Iniyabharathi and one of his followers were arrested by the CID on the 6th.

The arrests were made in the Thirukkovil and Sandiveli areas after a lengthy investigation into murders, abductions, disappearances, use of firearms, operation of torture chambers and extortion that occurred in the Eastern Province between 2005 and 2008.

The notorious Iniya Bharathi served as the head of an armed camp in the Thirukkovil area of the Karuna Amman group, which defected from the LTTE terrorist group in 2004.

He became involved with democratic political movements and served as a member of the Eastern Provincial Council from 2012 to 2015, after being elected by popular vote.
