There is no “salbutamol nebulization solution”, which is provided to emergency respiratory patients said Dr. Chamal Sanjeewa. In hospitals across the island, the Ministry of Health has granted permission to hospital directors to purchase the medicine at a retail price as regional individual purchases.
The Chairman of the Medical and Civil Rights Professional Alliance of Doctors, Specialist Dr. Chamal Sanjeewa, says that the Ministry of Health has granted permission to purchase the medicine at a retail price.
This medicine is used to purchased at a wholesale price by the State Pharmaceuticals Corporation. Normally, in wholesale price the amount that the government has to spend on a bottle of medicine is close to ninety-five rupees.
In this way, granting permission to purchase at a retail price when necessary, Hospital directors have to purchase the same medicine bottle from the same company at a price of close to Rs. 300.
He also points out that due to the severe inefficiency and chaos that has arisen in the current tendering process for the procurement of medicines by the State Pharmaceuticals Corporation, individual companies that supply certain medicines to the country are working to supply medicines to external pharmacies and private hospitals at high prices instead of submitting tenders to the State Pharmaceuticals Corporation,
And thus the hospital directors are having to spend a lot of money unnecessarily in high price on purchases, which is a deliberately created health crisis since the Ministry of Health is having to purchase medicines from the same company at a higher price,
Dr. Chama Sanjeewa requests from the President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to investigate and take necessary action against those responsible since the State Pharmaceuticals Corporation is directly responsible for this ongoing situation, they should accept responsibility as a major party responsible for the drug crisis that will occur next year.
