The construction of the Kadawatha to Mirigama section of the Central Expressway is scheduled to officially resume today (17) to commence under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
It is stated that the construction of the Kadawatha Interchange and the first 500 meters of the expressway will also commence at that time.
The government has allocated Rs. 8.6 billion for this project.
Construction of this section was suspended in mid-2022 due to the suspension of the credit facilities allocated for this road due to the economic crisis.
It is stated that the Export-Import Bank of China has approved a RMB loan equivalent to US $ 500 million to resume construction.
The project is scheduled to be fully completed by mid-2028.
The distance between Kadawatha and Mirigama on the Central Expressway is 37 kilometers.
