A prisoner who was injured after climbing a Bo tree in the prison and jumping to the ground has died, the Kalutara North Police say.
The deceased has been identified as Sampath Mendis, a resident of Waskaduwa, Kalutara.
The deceased prisoner had climbed a Bo tree in the prison premises on July 21 while in prison on charges of drug possession.
Accordingly, he was admitted to the Nagoda Hospital for treatment and was re-imprisoned after recovering.
However, the inmate’s condition worsened and he was re-admitted to the hospital and the inmate died last night (15). Kalutara North Police are conducting further investigations.
