Sri Lanka’s Rasara Wijesuriya has qualified for the 5000m final at the World University Games in Germany. She achieved this opportunity after finishing 7th in the qualification race held today (24) within 16:00.30 Minutes
Rasara’s time is her personal best and the second best in the history of athletics by a Sri Lankan female athlete. Rasara participated in the 10000m event held yesterday where she set a new Sri Lankan record by finishing the race in 32:52.20 minutes.
However, she broke a record she had set herself, which had been broken twice this year.
Rasara is representing the University of Kelaniya in this competition.
This year’s World University Games began on the 16th and is scheduled to conclude on the 27th.
More than 7,000 athletes representing 113 countries are participating.
They are scheduled to compete in 234 events across 18 sports.
